Platelet Enriched Plasma

Platelet Enriched Plasma

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

This technique involves the preparation of autologous cells. This means creating products based on the patient’s own blood - separating more than 90% of the cells in plasma. PRP is a small portion of the blood, made of a high concentration of platelets which have the ability to help the body heal itself by releasing growth factors. PRP treatment involves injecting a patient's own concentration of platelets directly into an injury or area requiring rejuvenation. This therapy mimics the final step of the clotting process without actually enlisting the clotting response itself. It enables the targeted area to quickly regenerate or heal because of the adhesive properties of the platelets.

Cosmetic improvements with Platelet Rich Plasma

Wrinkle and skin fold treatments - Great for plumping up fine skin on the face, neck, décolletage and hands.

Precautions - PRP should be avoided in pregnancy, bleeding disorders and infection. Smokers have less improvement.

What is the cost of PRP?

$400 for 1 area and $600 for 2. Entire face is $800.

What areas can you treat?

Most common areas we treat are around the eyes, around the mouth and neck.

How long does the procedure take?

For your first treatment we will book you in for 90 minutes. The following treatments will be 60 minutes.

How many treatments do you need?

3 x treatments that are 4 weeks apart and then just 1 maintenance treatment a year.

What is the down time like?

Everyone is very different but we suggest taking the next day off work. Initially you will be very swollen but as the face heals quickly, 75% should subside within the first 24 hours. You should go home and ice your face for 4 hours after your treatment to help with swelling and bruising.

  1. Topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the area being treated.
  2. A small amount of blood is collected by venepuncture.
  3. The blood is processed to produce a concentrate of platelets in plasma.
  4. This solution is re-injected into areas of fine crepey skin to improve skin texture.

Afterwards- The new collagen and fibrin skin network takes several weeks/months to form and this new tissue will continue to rejuvenate for 12 months. Treatments should be repeated to enhance the effect.
